Miracle Baby

On our first day in Penang we walked down to the beach by the Hotel, on the beach there was a small Cafe, so we ordered a few bits, I had a georgous chicken curry, washed down with a Tiger Beer or three.
The setting was beautiful, soft white sand, rolling clear warm sea, The best.
As we paid paid for the bill we noticed a baby just waking up, the owner bought her over to see us, she was super cute and very happy. Her Father then told us the story of when the Tsunami hit this part of the Island. the water came above his head in the photo or even covered the rocks in the other picture.
The Baby (Tulisi) was only 20 days old and was sleeping on a matress, the wave just picked her up and by a miracle did not crush her on the building, but swept her out to sea, she was out there for over five minutes floating on the matress, one of the next smaller waves bought her back to her parents. Half a dozen people on the beach were not so lucky, the tourist's were drowned, including two brits.
I vaguely remember hearing her story on the news networks and if you do a search for "Miracle Tsunami Baby", there are loads of stories about Tulisi.
The Father also pointed out a wild Sea Otter on the rocks, there used to be a thriving community, but after the Tsunami no one saw them, this week was the first time one had been seen since the wave, he hopes another sign that things are getting back to normal, so should you ever be on Penang, go down to the beach across from the Hotel Ferrenghi at Batu Ferrenghi and visit the Cafe Machoo, you'll get a warm welcome, the story of his daughter and a good curry.
