Tafarn y Gader Tapas Bar Dolgellau

This restaurant was a bit of a surprise on my visit to Mid Wales. The B & B I was staying in recommended it so I tried.


The service was a bit lack lustre at first, but once it started everything flowed really well. The menu is very good, plenty of tapas to have a go at. The prices are around £6 each, for two people 5 portions would be fine.


I had deep fried cheese..

Croquettes...

Potato bravas in garlic...

Plus dessert, obviously.

A special mention to the 3 fine lagers that were on sale, Stella, Mahou and San Miquel, I love all three.

The total bill was around £30

Carling Premier

Since getting back, i've reaquainted myself with several beers I couldn't get in Thailand.

Carling Premier is a smooth lager best served chilled, it goes down so easy and before you know what as happened its gone!

Smooth, smooth, smooth!!!

Singha UK

On a visit to Tesco's this weekend I found that they were selling the Thai Beer "Singha" or as it is ordered in Thailand "Beer Sing"

The cost was £2.10 which is about 150 Thai Baht, you will expect to pay this at a top end restaurant in Bangkok. However in the Tesco's near me in Thailand a bottle come's in at 38Baht (48p).

I'm not actually a great fan of Singha, a little to sweet and bloaty for me, buts it was a good drop of beer and bought many memories back.

Son of Stella

The lovely Stella Artois have bought two new lagers in the UK, as you would expect from interbrew, they are fine beers.

Tonight I have been mostly trying Peeterman Artois, the taste is similar to normal stella, a little crisper and drier, but at only 4%abv, you wont be beating the wife about the head after a four pack.

Stella, I love you.

Hollywood Stars say no to drink

Thailand’s new Anti alcohol Laws are going from the ridiculous to the down right bloody stupid.

On ESPN and Star Sports during football programs that are sponsored by Tiger Beer. Instead of the Tiger Beer advert we are treated to a parade of “Hollywood Stars”, why these people I don’t know. If the sensor wanted to keep family values by censoring beer adverts, why do they show a parade of Drug takers, alcoholics, wife barterers, strange mental cases, deviant Bozo’s from Hollywood? One as even been linked with an affair with her brother!

I’ve said before, if they want to curb alcohol consumption, put the price up! Make it a £1 a pint from the Offy, not 45p a pint. Also stop small local shops from selling to anyone at any time of the day.

Tiger Beer must be laughing, regular viewers to the footy all know, that when the celebs come on the screen its an advertisement for Tiger Beer, I know, all the Farang know and certainly the Thai’s know it. One of the biggest differences between the UK and Thailand is; Air brained schemes seem to get off the ground in Thailand…..

San Miguel

This last week I have come across a good Light Beer. Yes, you heard right “A good Light Beer”

I never thought I would utter these words, but there you go. San Miguel Beer, which everyone usually associates it with Spain, is actually made by a Phillippino Company. Regular San Miguel is not s common in Thailand, but is gaining popularity.

A new Light version is out, the taste is crisp and it goes down very easily, usually Light Beers are the normal beer with 50% water added, that is what it tastes like. Well San Miguel is still 5%ABV. It’s just so much easier to drink, and doesn’t make you feel blotted after half a dozen bottles.

Siam Sato

I like to keep you up with some of the drinks I come across in Thailand; this one is just under a pint and is classed as a rice wine.

It is 18%ABV and tastes like the cheapest of cheap Perry wine, such as Country Manor or Pomange back in the UK.

After a glass full, the taste becomes just too sweet, a person can only take so many anti-freezes in one go.

The beauty of it is it only costs 25p per bottle, should you manage to drink a full one, you’d be so pissed!
