Bangkok Golf

Golf in Bangkok is a fairly cheap pastime, at most courses you can just turn up and play, this includes the hire of your clubs, and also most Hotels will book for you and provide transport to the course.
Most courses in Bangkok are out of the centre of the city, so you will have at least a thirty minute drive, you can expect this in most capital cities.
From the courses I’ve played in the past, you are expected to have a Caddie and a buggy.

Listed below are the approx costs:
Green Fees 1500bht
Caddie 400bht
Buggy 500bht
Club Hire 500bht

Total 2900bht
(Approx £40)

So the cost is not great. The quality of the courses is up to UK standards, like UK courses, there are good and not so good, what lets down most Bangkok courses are the greens, very sandy and difficult to read. All the courses I’ve played have been very challenging, most holes will have water on them, and every course I’ve played as had an island par 3 just for fun.
The Caddies usually speak very little English, but their course knowledge is very good and they are good ball rats who never give a ball up. They can be intimidating at first when your 150Mtr out and they give you a 9 iron and you have to ask for the 6 iron. They soon get used to game and are very lenient when it comes to free drops. I know what some of you guys are thinking about the Caddies! Yes they are usually young and good looking! And yes, some of the younger one’s don’t mind being asked out after the game. It is expected to tip them between 200-400bht depending on how good they area and when you stop for a drink at the many watering holes you should ask them if they would like a drink.
All round the golf courses there are Cafes, all selling soft and alcoholic drinks plus food at most of them, here Thai Courses blow their UK Counterparts away, most having at least six Cafes round the course. You do need to hydrate at every stop, de-hydration must be avoided at all costs, if not you get tired and your games goes off quick, and please remember the sunscreen, even in low season it will be at least 30 degs in the shade.
If anyone comes to Bangkok and thinks they might want a game, get in touch. Up to now, golf equipment as been hard to get and then the price is not to good, fake Polo Shirts with makes like Taylor Made, Ping and Callaway are very cheap and very good quality, at most courses they will sell you six grade A Lake Balls, all the same make for about 100bht (£1.40). The amount of water on these courses, you'll need alot of ammo.

Robbo lives! Good to hear from you, I'll keep the Tour in mind, but when will the AMS "Boys" be "man" enough to come on Tour to Bangkok?
