Pub v Supermarket

A lot as been said about the on going fued between your local pub and supermarket.
On one hand the pub is a great place to meet up with mates, have a few or more beers and catch up on all the goings on in peoples lives. Now there is no smoking allowed in pubs, I really enjoy going. Your clothes don't smell if cigarette smoke and your lungs are the same health has when you started the evening. Plus the smug feeling you get seeing all the smokers outside rules.
Just lately supermarkets have been upsetting the apple cart, I think the biggest threat to pubs is the uber cheap beer in the supermarkets. Yesterday I bought four one pint cans of Stella Artois 4 for £2.99. If I had bought these in my local it would have nearly £12. Add onto this the enevitable kebab at the end of the night and you've just done nearly £20, or to put it another way, you've saved £17....
My personal choice is the pub, the getting out of the house and meeting up with mates and having the crack will take alot of beating.

Fight

Today at work I witnessed a serious fight between a Director and a sales manager! I couldn't believe what I was seeing.
Weapons used included a calor bottle, spirit level and a dog. Luckily things stopped just before things got totally out of hand and someone was seriously hurt or worse.

Oh well, let's see what happens tomorrow?

iPhone 2 months on

I've been using my new iPhone 3Gs for two months now. All I can say is that it's the best phone I've ever used.
It's quick easy interface make it easy to use and the app store makes downloading different applications a doddle.
A down side is the battery life, a normal days use will use a full charge and typing a number whilst on the phone is impossible.
Overall, I'll give the iPhone 9.5/10....

Thailand back in the news

As I write this blog, blood is literally being spilt in the streets of Bangkok. Not through the armed struggle of certain political groups or another military coup, but by red shirt demonstrators giving their blood and then having it poured at the gates of the Goverment building. This is to show that whilst the goverment doesn't have blood on its hands [Yet] it will have blood on its feet!!!

Seems a bit mad to me, but the day I understand the Thai mentality is now beyond my grasp.

The million man march by the red shirts as turned into the 100000 man camp out. I'm not sure they are going to gain anything. I'm not even sure why i'm writing about it any more, nothing I say will ever have any bearance on the bull shit going on.

All I know is, the baht is now only worth 48baht to the pound and no longer offers a good place to go on holiday any more.

Yes, i'm still here

I know, I know its been a few months since I last posted.

The main reason has been lack of moral, i've been very busy at work and in all fairness this blog as taken a back seat.

Things are slowly getting back in shape and so i'll start trying to post a bit more frequently.

iPhone 3GS

I have just had a new iPhone 3GS. I've had a iPhone for nearly two years, it is easily the best phone I've ever had, until now!

The iPhone 3GS is eveything I need in a phone. Big memory (16gb), iPod, loads of applications, video, MMS, copy & pasting and forwarding.

The battery life could be better and the camara could be bigger than 3mp, but these are trivial things.

So for the future of mobile phones, get the new iPhone 3GS.....

Over Christmas Nuch and I went to see the lastest film from James Camaron called Avatar.

First of all I have to say it was superb, real life and CGI seamlessly blend together. We saw it in a normal theatre, but if you get chance to see it i
n 3D, then see it in that format. You can tell in 2D that the film as been set up for the 3D format.

The story is simple, earth 22nd century and all resources have pretty well run out. A new planet as been found that as a resource needed on earth, but the locals aren't giving it up without a fight. Enter our hero who is taking the place if his murdered twin brother in a project that as created clones of the local inhabitants and are able to link to them through mind control. Too cut a long story short he goes native and helps protect the local tribes.

Definately a film to see before you die, I may go and see it in 3D soon.

what's with the weather?

We've had this cold snap now for over three weeks, we had a whitish Christmas and today the snow came back with avengence!

The outlook for later on in the week is for more heavy snow and very cold temperatures.

One good thing is, this could mean a return to seasons, cold winters and maybe hit summers, let's hope!

Lights in the Sky

Last night just as I was going to bed (12.15am), I heard fireworks close to the house, so I opened the front door to check it out.

Due east I saw a orange shape in the sky, I immediately thought it was a plane and went to bed, not thinking anything about it. In the morning when I spoke to my Mum, she had seen several such things, also my sister on the canary Islands saw lights in the sky too. Several of the news services are also reporting similar sightings.

One explanation are chinese lanterns, maybe!

2009 The year that was

I can honestly say that 2009 has been the worst year I can remember! Four jobs, not alot of money, a holiday that wasn't what i'd hoped for and a current job i'm not over the moon with.

At the end of january I lost my job with Phil at PSA Properties, this was a direct result of the credit crunch and couldn't be avoided, I also lost Phil as a best mate, this is a whole different story, one i'm not ready to tell yet. Things are definately beyond repair in that friendship, oh well, It took the whole of february to find a job, this gave me time to have a good time with Elizabeth especially in the big snow we had that month.

The job I got was a temp position at a local ladder manufacturer, it was bloody hard work, working through the night on a 12 hour shift. In all fairness it was good not having to use my brin, just make back legs for step ladders!

May saw us go on holiday to Thailand, in all fairness we shouldn't have gone, money was tight and because of this we didn't have the holiday we wanted. This also conicided with my weight loss, over the year i've lost 18kg and 2 waist sizes. Sounds good, but i'm not sure what is causing it. Anyway I get back from holiday, went into work only to find out the temp agency had lost the contract and I was again jobless.

Luckily I was only out of work for a few weeks. I got a job with a agricultural farm building company, originally set on to erect the buildings, but eventually used to project manage the builds and sell the buildings. The company was busy, unfortunately busy because they were under selling the buildings, making a loss. This was obviously a business going no where fast and just after my birthday at the end of august they were forced to close down owing a load of cash.

Out of work again, luckily I found a job the same day with a supplier of the company, this company as since been taken over and whilst things do seem to be on the up, I can no longer feel secure in a job and never take anything for granted.

Elizabeth keeps on being an excellent child, she gets better and better. Her nursery is bringing her along in a great way. She can be naughty at times and she does find Nuch and I boring compared to nursery. We have begun to enrol her in a primary school, even though its twenty months away, the school we wnt for her is always over subscribed, so the early bird.....

Thailand as been in the news alot this year and not usually for the best reason. Everything from Political tension, poor economy, security problems and very poor human rights. The tourist industry is in a real downturn, when we were ther in may/june, some of the beaches were deserted. Whether we go back next year will depend on a number of factors.

I really hope that 2010 will be a better year, it can't be much worse than 2009!!!
